Obituary
Dixieanna (Dixie) Rose Lucas of Aztec NM passed away Sunday, February 26 at the age of 89, in Farmington NM, after battling Alzheimer’s for many years. She was a great example of adventure, courage, and strength to those who knew her.
A funeral service will be held in her honor at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Aztec NM on Monday, March 6th. Viewing will be at 10:30 am, Services at 11:00 am.
Dixie was born February 15, 1934, in Madison Wisconsin to Alfred and Bertha (Jackson) Laneville.
As in everyone’s life, we all have difficulties in life, but she rose above these challenges and created a beautiful life for herself. Dixie married the love of her life, Donald Lewis Lucas, on December 7, 1979, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Anchorage Alaska commercial fishing. Upon retiring, they lived in various places, finally settling in Aztec NM.
Dixie is preceded in Death by her husband Don in 2008, two daughters Mary Ellen McKay and Lorrie Lynch, a granddaughter Michelle Harrison, two great-granddaughters Daphne and Evangeline Gates, both her parents, and one sister Susan Keylor.
She leaves behind one sister Salle Sherrod, two daughter’s Linda Harrison (Marion) and Christy Lillywhite (Dwayne) and one son Thomas Kramer (Laurel), stepdaughter Diane Golde (Aaron), stepson Bob Kramer (Diane) stepdaughter Laura Diane Maccabee (George) and stepson David Lucas (Ruth). She was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
We would like to acknowledge the staff at the Beehive 1 nursing home in Farmington for the amazing care they showed to our mom during this time in her life, and to Guardian Angel Hospice care who gently helped her through her transition. She was truly blessed with gentle loving caregivers.
