Vivian Mankin-Owens

Vivian Frances Mankin-Owens was born March 5, 1919 to Charlie and Dora Finch in the small community of Hickory Creek, Texas. She went to school there until the 12th grade. She then transferred to Bailey, Texas where she graduated in 1938.

While at Bailey, she was a basketball guard. She was on the All-State team when there were only 6 girls on that team. This was quite an honor.

She married R. Farrell Red Mankin, Jr. on December 19, 1938. They were married 45 years when Farrell died. Later, Frances married her High school sweetheart, Billy Don Owens. They had 3 ½ years of happiness before Bill died.

Following Bill's death, Frances moved to New Mexico to be near her daughter. She lived in the Farmington area for 21 years. Frances became a member of the First Baptist Church in Aztec. She enjoyed sewing with a group of ladies who made quilts for those in need. She sewed happily and faithfully for several years.

Frances left her earthly home and ran into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 21, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Clifford Finch, and sister, Lucille Thornton, husbands, Farrell Mankin, and Bill Owens. She is survived by 2 sons, Dr. Robert C. Mankin and wife, Linda, of Beaumont, Texas, and Thomas C. Mankin and wife, Laurie, of Georgetown, Texas and daughter, Farrelyn E. Lee and husband, Jim, of Bloomfield, NM, as well as eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Aztec. A second service will be held in November at the Arledge Ridge Cemetery in Bonham, Texas.
