NELSON LARRY JACK
June 3, 1948 – February 24, 2023
Nelson Larry Jack, 74, of Farmington, NM, passed away at his home on Friday, February 24, 2023. Larry was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all whose lives he touched.
He was born to Nelson L. and Mary Jeanne (Lillywhite) Jack on June 3, 1948, in Farmington, NM. At the time, his parents lived in Denahotso, in the Four Corners area, where his father was a trader. They moved from there to Gallup, then to Two Grey Hills Trading Post, where they lived for about seven years. When he was ten, his family moved to Farmington, where his father was a successful State Farm agent for nearly forty years.
A 1966 graduate of Farmington High School, Larry attended Dixie College in St. George for a year, then served a church mission in the Central Atlantic States for two years. After his mission he attended BYU, working construction during the summers.
He was the owner of JaxPro Pest Control in the Phoenix area for 30 years. He and his wife moved to NM in January, 2021 where they developed many more close friends, and strengthened ties with his brothers and many Jack and Lillywhite cousins. He was diagnosed with cancer in July, 2022 and, after a valiant fight, succumbed to the disease.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served an honorable mission as a young Elder and held various positions in the Church, including Gospel Doctrine teacher, member of the Bishopric, High Councilor, leader in the Self Reliance Program and as Ward Mission Leader. He and Loretta served a 5-year service mission in the Addiction Recovery Program as coordinators in the Phoenix-Casa Grande-Showlow area.
He was the proud and loving father of four children from his first marriage to Laurie Hillyard: Bryson (Kristy), Anson (Jennifer), Ian (Amy) and JenaGayle (Shane) Hatch, and was a much beloved step-dad to Olivia Holden. He was blessed with sixteen wonderful grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Monta Smith and Deidre Allen; and baby sister, Gina Gayle. He is survived by his wife, Loretta, five children, brothers LeGrand (Mecheal) Jack and Greg (Rhonda) Jack, and sixteen grandchildren.
Larry's funeral will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Knudsen LDS Chapel, 1310 E. 25th St., Farmington. The Family Viewing will take place at 10:00 am at the Knudsen Chapel on March 4th. All are invited to join the family at a viewing from 6-8 pm at the Brewer Larkin & Lee Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St., in Farmington, on Friday evening, March 3rd. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
