Michael David Burgett

d. October 24, 2021

Michael David Burgett, 69, of Aztec, New Mexico went home to be with Jesus on October 24, 2021.  He was born on November 15, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa to David and Aleeta Burgett.  Mike was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Mike graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1970.  He entered the United States Air Force in March of 1972.  He married Janet Seagren in June 1974.  Together, they had three children, Jason Travis, Shannon Marie, and Ashley Rae.

During his time in the Air Force, Mike joined a band which went through multiple name changes, Rush, Rage and White Axe.  They toured across North Dakota and Minnesota, and their music was widely appreciated. Mike was Honorably Discharged from the military in 1976.

Mike and his family moved to Ada, Minnesota where he worked at G & W Motors before landing at the Ada Municipal Liquor Store.  During this time his marriage to Janet ended and he met the woman he would spend the rest of his life with, Cindy.

He was a Scout master & a permanent announcer for KRJB radio. He travelled with the high school teams to announce their games for the radio.

In 1997, Mike moved to New Mexico and made his home there.  In 1998, he married his beloved wife Cindy.  There they raised her son, Dalton, who he loved as his own.

While in New Mexico, he worked for Canyon Homes before purchasing a car lot.  Eventually moving on to work at WalMart for 15 years before his retirement.  He was well loved by his WalMart family.

Mike also had many creative outlets.  He was a voracious reader, especially loving to read his Bible.  He often joked that he gave his books a room in the house, but they were going to overtake the whole house.  He acted in multiple plays, most notably The Passion Play of the Four Corners. Mike spent several years portraying Jesus in the play, and had continued to work along side the performance even after he no longer acted in it.  He loved his birds, and was known to spend much time feeding and tending to them.  He was a life-long learner and studied endlessly.  In the last year, he took theology courses through Dallas Theological Seminary, and was spurred on to investigate more of what he knew of the Lord through these courses.  He found the greatest value in the Hebrews course, and encouraged others to take it as well. He has also spent the last years of his retirement relearning how to play the guitar, and was able to bless his family with his music.  Most recently singing a special song for his granddaughter and her future husband two days before they got married.

In the last year, he spend a concerted amount of time writing stories of people from the Bible.  He wrote brilliantly about their lives, and developed the characters we know only brief information about.

Mike was also an extravagant giver.  He gave of his finances, time, and his life in ways largely unseen by others, but his generosity could be felt by all who came in contact with him.

Mike loved his wife, his children, and his grandchildren, and he was deeply loved by his grandchildren, his kids and his wife.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, David Burgett, his mother, Aleeta Burgett, his brother-in-law, Darrell Ramstad, his granddaughter, Amanda, his sister, Andrea Eckley, and his niece and nephew, Brandy and Dustin.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy.  His children, son Jason Burgett & wife Erica, his daughter Shannon Eckley & husband Brent, his daughter Ashley Burgett and her fiancé Brandy Bosman, and son Dalton Horn.  As well as his grandchildren, Mike Eckley, Madison Eckley, Mariah & Christian Dalton, Lyssa Eckley, Austen Burgett, Tanner Burgett, Zach Bosman, Taylor Bosman, and Paisley Bosman.  As well as his brothers, Stan (Linda) Burgett, Tim (Denice) Burgett, Dan (JeriLyn) Burgett, and Joe (Cindi) Burgett, and well as many nieces and nephews.

He will be missed.  Always.
