Lionel "Leo" Valdez

Lionel, “Leo” Valdez passed away peacefully at home with his devoted wife of 54 years by his side on Friday, September 23, 2022. Leo was born November 2, 1939 in Tapecitos, New Mexico, the 10th of 11 children.

Leo worked many years in the oilfield and did not know idle time. When he wasn’t working his regular job, he’d pick up odd jobs and even worked after retirement for Cascade Water Bottling Co. Hard working, generous, fun, wild, humorous and loving are some words that can describe this incredible gift from God.

Leo married the love of his life in 1968, and together they were blessed with six children, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Delfido  and Octaviana Valdez, his ten brothers and sisters his eldest son, Joe Angel Valdez and granddaughter Rachelle Stanley.
Survivors include his wife, Leoba Valdez, daughters Louise Richardson (James Richardson), Linda Stanley(Derrall Bradford), sons Lionel Valdez (Jeff Parker), Louis Valdez and Lorenzo Valdez, along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Aztec, NM, with a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Aztec Cemetery.
