James Swapp

James Roy Swapp, 86, of Gallup, New Mexico passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021. He was born on October 27, 1934 in Gila, New Mexico to Ben Loman Swapp and Gladys Northrup.
He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married the love of his life Donna Black on June 8, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Kirtland High School in 1952. He had many occupations in his life including serving in the US Army, a New Mexico State Police Officer and finally becoming an owner operator truck driver which was his passion until the age of 75. He loved his family and was their hero.
James is preceded in death by his parents Ben Loman Swapp, Gladys Northrup, brothers Arthur Grant Swapp, Ben Melvin Swapp, son-in-law Hoyt Lynn Miller Sr., his grandchildren Rubin Wesley Miller, Toni Lynne Miller, and his great-grandchild Preston Kyle Tunnell.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna, his sisters Verda Foutz of Kirtland, NM, Elsie Jones of Mesa, AZ, children Greg and Leta Swapp of Midland, TX, Patsy Miller of Quapaw OK, Darlene and Martin Oesterle Sr. of Bloomfield, NM, Randy and Amy Swapp of Albuquerque, Lisa and Donald Maynerich of Gallup, NM, James and Deborah Swapp of Albuquerque. He has 33 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are; grandsons Hoyt Miller Jr, Loren Oesterle, Ben Swapp, Nathan Swapp, Justin Maynerich, Jeremy Maynerich, James Swapp. Honorary Pallbearers are; grandsons William Miller, Jacob Miller, Clyde Swapp, Robert Swapp, Luke Santistevan, Jeffrey Swapp, Shane Oesterle, Martin Oesterle Jr., Jesse Maynerich, Michael Ellis II, Shane Tufford II. Papa would not want his girls to go unmentioned. His granddaughters are Melissa Basham, Amber Duncan, Leticia Swapp, Amy McDaniel, Leona Sherwood, Naomi Parry, Patsy Miller, LaDonna Mosley, Jennifer Maynerich, Rosey Armstrong, Sarah Endecott, Sami Nodal, Marissa Lowry, Sydney Swapp.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Kirtland Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
