81 Years of Age
Paul was born to Emigran & Sofia Valdez Montoya on May 6, 1941, in Gobernador, NM. He went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday November 2, 2022. His battle with medical issues in recent years showed his courage and determination in facing life’s challenges with a smile.
Paul was one of 16 children. He is preceded in death by all 15 siblings and both of his parents.
Paul is survived by his “sweetie” of 19 years, Teresa Sikes. He is survived by his 10 children:
Nikki Montoya (Rodney Ulrich) of Chandler, AZ
Melissa Masri (Michael) of Lubbock, TX
Lisa Montoya Cooper (Darrell) of Herriman, UT
Angie Smith (Neal) of Sacramento, CA
Wendy Gurule (Tommy Montoya) of Farmington, NM
Michelle “Rene” Mabee of Chicago, IL
Anthony Montoya of Salt Lake City, UT
Patrick Montoya of Salt Lake City, UT
Christopher Montoya (Star) Salt Lake City, UT
Timothy Montoya (Carrie) of Salt Lake City, UT
He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, & many lifelong friends that he called family.
Paul worked as a mechanic for the City of Aztec for 25 years. When he retired in 2003, or “graduated” as he called it, he was free to travel and visit family/friends and golf whenever he desired.
Paul loved people and knew no stranger. He had 3 passions in life: family/friends, music, and golf. He was an extremely talented musician and traveled all over the US and Canada, playing lead guitar professionally with many bands for many years. He made countless lifelong friends that became family on those journeys. When he quit traveling for music, he discovered his passion for golf. He loved to be out on the golf course and continued to play regularly up until the very end.
He will truly be missed, but never forgotten. What he imprinted on us all will keep his memory and spirit alive.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a Mass and Celebration of Life at a later date.
