Freda Faye Thomas

Waterflow - Freda Faye Thomas, 75, of Waterflow, NM, passed away on October 15, 2021. Freda was born in Abilene, Texas, on May 11, 1946, to parents Fred Dodge and Lillian Elizabeth Moore(Cook).
Our mother Freda had a genuine heart and an inspiring SMILE. She had a great love for her family and cherished every moment she had with them.
Freda graduated from Eunice, High School in 1964. She attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM where she obtained, her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She then later obtained her master's degree also in education. She moved to Shiprock, NM in 1968 to begin her teaching career for the Central Consolidated School District (Nataani Nez Elementary). She met and married Phil Thomas in December of 1969.
She had a love for learning that carried over to her students of the Diné culture, during her 38-year teaching career. Her influence will forever be remembered by her former students and colleagues.
She was a stalwart member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kirtland, NM. Her love for the Savior, was evident in how she lived her life of service and love for others.
Our mother had a huge love for making crafts. She especially enjoyed making greeting cards to send to her family and friends. Freda collected bells and had a great love for reading.
Freda is preceded in death by her parents Fred Dodge and Lillian Elizabeth Moore (Cook) and her brothers Fred Gerald and James Wayne Moore. Also preceded in death by her grandparents Fred Theodore and Julia Etta Moore (Hedgcoxe), and John B. Gordan and Mary Milton Cook (Hyatt).
Freda is survived by her husband, Phil Leonard Thomas, and her children Clayton and Jennifer Ann Thomas (Crezee) and Crystal Ann and Gregory Lynn Busath (Thomas). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cameron John and Paige Alexandra Thomas (Henrie), Treven Michael and Taylie J'leen Thomas (Turner), Spencer Jacob and Maren Ann Thomas (Larsen), Courtney Ann Thomas and Ethan William Thomas; and her great granddaughters Oaklee Dawn Thomas and Eliza Kay Thomas.
Services will be held on October 23, 2021, at the Kirtland 5th Ward building (10 Road 6523, Kirtland, NM) at 10:00 am. A viewing for the public will be held on Friday evening from 6:30-8:30 pm at Brewer, Lee, and Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington, NM. She will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Farmington, NM.
