Edison Benally

A funeral mass for Edison R. Benally, 50, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup. The Reverend Josh May will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Benally died May 4, 2016, in Gallup. He was born June 3, 1965, in Gallup, into the Red Cheek People Clan born for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Benally attended Cathedral Elementary School, St. Michael Indian School and graduated from Gallup High School. He also attended TVI and was certified in carpentry. Benally enjoyed reading, going to traditional events, attending sporting events and spending time with his family. He was active in his Catholic church.

Survivors include his daughter Pamela R. Benally; mother Dorothy M. Benally; brothers Benjamin Benally and Edward Benally; and sister Delores J. Benally. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Descheen Benally Nahdesbah and grandmother Maxine Tennison.

Pallbearers will be Chester Silversmith, Leonard Dooley, Ben Benally, Edward Ben, Chares Torrez and Marvin Francisco.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Sacred Heart Family Center.

Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup, NM is entrusted with arrangements.
