Raymond Stewart Hatch Sr.

May 6, 1919 ~ July 7, 2019 (age 100)

Raymond Stewart Hatch Sr. passed away peacefully on July 7, 2019 in the same Fruitland home he was born and raised. He was born May 6, 1919, the tenth and youngest child to Lelia and Joseph Hatch.

He graduated from Ft. Wingate Indian School, and then began a career as a carpenter until WWII began. He served in the US Army 1289th combat engineers in Europe and in the Pacific. He returned to build Hatch Brothers Trading Post with his brother Claude. He enjoyed trading post life and was well known as Joe Yazzie (little Joe, after his father). He met Elsie in the Store. Fell in love with her, and married her.

Elsie survives him along with their five boys, William V. (Genola), Raymond S. (Barbara), John W., Robert L., and Charles L. (Alfreita).
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, on Highway 64 in Kirtland, New Mexico on July 13, 2019 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Fruitland/Kirtland Cemetery.
